How to Prepare for GMAT

Hi ALL,
This is Prakash and I am going to share my experience with all you guys, which will help you achieve a well-balanced as well as an above average score in your dream exam called GMAT. I will try my level best to help you achieve great success in the exam.

What is the GMAT CAT ?
GMAT stands for Graduate Management Admission Test and CAT stands for Computer Adaptive Test. It was a pen and paper based test till 1996, but from 1997 onwards it has been taken in its current CAT format. The test is currently administered by ETS, educational testing center.
The main purpose of the exam is to test how well you are going to perform in the first year of your graduate study. It attempts to do this by investigating your ability to answer multiple choice questions in Quants as well as Verbal ability. You are also expected to write 2 essays during the exam.
More than half of the institutions offering Full Time MBA program in the world, accept GMAT scores for admissions.

You need a good GMAT score
Admission process for prestigious business schools really very very tough. Good B schools require you to take GMAT and a high GMAT score is essential if you want to get admitted into one of those institutions. GMAT score ranges from 200 to 800, but as per ETS scores above750 and below 250 are very rare. Two third of candidates score between 400 - 600. If you are aiming for any state university or any institute having graded as 2nd tier or above then you should aim for a score more than 650 for safe passage. I am not saying that it is not possible if you have score less than 650, you need to fulfill other requirements for the admission procedure. Remember that GMAT score plays a crucial role during admission but it is not the only criteria for admission, our academic background as well as our professional experience matters equally as GMAT score.

You need a well balanced score
Many business schools not only concentrate on your overall scores but also they look for a well balanced scores. It means the scores should be consistently good across the subtests and essays. If a candidate is very good verbally but numerically challenged may not get admission into prestigious B school despite of getting a very good GMAT score.
